Andrew completed the 20Twenty Leadership Course in 2017. As Managing Director of Carreg Construction, he is responsible for setting the vision for the business, it’s goals and aspirations, governance, development of staff and responsible for creating a safe and happy working environment.

How did the 20Twenty programme help you personally?

I believe that it helped me re-set my start button for the business and allowed me time to fully consider not ‘what’ or ‘how’ we operate, but ‘why’. Since completing the course and the all important strategic review of Carreg, we have completely reformed the way in which we do business: our market, our processes and systems and we continue to build a young and vibrant team of professionals, qualified and experienced to provide the highest levels of quality and service to our clients.

Is there a particular success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your career since completing the course?

The programme contributed significantly to a few areas of the business. Apart from the business development itself, we have created two new innovative aspects to support our current business activity:

  • ‘Carreg Concepts’ – a new in-house design service that allows our clients to very quickly ‘visualise’ their dream home. This full bespoke design service to support our construction work is proving very popular.
  • We have developed a new and unique software to help communicate the real-time project financials between contractor and client. We currently use the software on all our live projects and have a number of further design iterations for the software, that will further enrich the client experience.

What are the best bits of the course?

All of it was enjoyable; the lectures, assignments, Strategic Project and meeting the staff and fellow students was all very interesting and fulfilling. The software project has resulted from a JV partnership with a fellow student on my course and I have maintained contact with another student, where I provide business mentoring support.

Would you say you’re a better leader since doing the course?

Most definitely, but this will always be work in progress! Since the course I have personally maintained a high level of CPD and continue to encourage my staff to undertake further learning and development.

Would you recommend the course to others?

Yes and continue to do so at any opportunity and hope that two of my staff will be attending within next 12 months.
